OUR APPROACH to Climate Adaptation
We walk you through the entire water planning process, from beginning to end. Beginning with a climate change assessment, we will then look at climate projections for your community and identify specific vulnerabilities. We will then map out a corporate climate adaptation plan, zeroing in on needs and priorities. Once adaptive actions are identified, we can then implement a plan that will take your community safely into the future.
|
Analyze - We will carry out an assessment of what could go wrong, or be beneficial, due to the identified climate impacts and look at key indicators of risk. This will help identify vulnerabilities in the various systems within the community. We will assess the risks appropriate to the village after a careful examination of climate change impacts. These risks would be assessed according to their likelihood and their magnitude, resulting in a risk score.
Plan - We will identify adaptation strategies for each high-scoring option covering planning, operational and capital. Each will be assessed against such factors as costs, effectiveness, flexibility in the future, energy use, greenhouse gas impacts, adverse impacts and vulnerability to outside forces. These factors will be weighted according the situation in the village and multiplied by the risk scores. The final report will contain performance and monitoring indicators to assess environmental and climatic change and gauge the progress of approved measures. |
Initiate - We will meet with the Mayor, council, village staff and community group leaders to ascertain what public involvement went well in the past and what needs improvement. We will develop a finalized communications strategy so that everyone knows what will be accomplished, how it will be done, who is doing what and when.
Frame: We will consult and learn a lot more about the people in the community and tie climate change to these personal and community group goals and objectives. Involve - We will often form an advisory group to guide the process to resiliency that would include council representation and undertake a variety of measures to involve the public, including mail outs, home visits, citizen workshops/open houses social media messaging, and a web page. |
